Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has been summoned by Italy's President Mattarella for a meeting on Thursday morning (Italian time), signalling that he will give him a mandate to form a new government.

The Five Star Movement and the Democratic Party (PD) reached a coalition deal and are set to create a new government led by Premier Giuseppe Conte.

The new alliance has formed after a political crisis sparked by League's leader Matteo Salvini, who left the coalition government with an aim of seizing power.
