Adriano Souras is only 16: through his art he aims to send a strong message regarding the environment and the impact we are having on it.

“I grew up mostly in Athens and have always heard stories about the sea, and how beautiful it is”, 16-year-old Adriano Souras remembers, but even in his young life he has noticed that marine life has decreased in the Greek islands.

Adriano has taken action through art: his 'Killer Net' is an artwork which aims to raise awareness about plastic pollution in oceans all over the world.

Despite his young age Adriano is already exhibiting his works in the US. His installation 'Killer Net', a fishing net which intertwines plastic straws, is a reference to the impact of a rapidly changing and polluted environment.

Born in London, Adriano moved to Greece with his family, where he is still living, after a few years he also spent in Barcelona. His parents are very supportive of his artistic endeavours, and his older brother Achilleas is also a young artist with a strong focus on social justice.

In his artist statement Adriano Souras writes:

"The increasing levels of sea pollution have given rise to alarming questions regarding both the survival of sea life and its evolution. Fishermen are reporting an increasing level of plastic in the oceans, resulting in the disturbance of their occupation on a daily basis and a threat to our oceans. Fishing nets capture all sorts of sea life and it is up to the discretion of the fishermen as to what remains in their nets and what is thrown back in the sea to thrive."
