The Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, and the Prime Minister of Papua-New Guinea, Peter O'Neill, have reportedly come to an agreement for the closure of the Manus Island detention centre. The Port Moresby summit followed by a few hours an initiative by more than 100 former and current staff of Australia's offshore immigration detention centres on Nauru and Manus Island, urging the federal government to close the facilities.
