Monteverdi's Ulysses lands in Sydney

Claudio Monverdi's The Return of Ulysses will be performed at the City Recital Hall Sydney from 13 to 19 June under the direction of innovative director Chas Rader-Shieber.


Pinchgut Opera new production comes after the internationally acclaimed success of Hasse's Artaserse that won the prestigious 2019 International Opera Award for best rediscovered work for the Sydney based opera company founded in 2002. 

The leading role of Ulysses will be performed by Grammy Award-nominated tenor Fernando Guimarães.  Australian mezzo-soprano Catherine Carby returns to Sydney to perform Penelopewhile soprano Roberta Diamond will sing the roles of Amore, Melanto and Giunone as scripted by Monteverdi in the original version of the opera.

Pinchgut Opera Artistic Director Erin Helyard will be conducting the Orchestra of the Antipodes.
