Ginevra Letizia talks about the work of AICS, the Italian agency for development cooperation, in Maputo.

During the 1970s the peace agreements that put an end to the long and bloody civil war Mozambique were signed in Rome.

"The relationship between Italy and Mozambique is long-standing and historical," says Ginevra Letizia, director of the Maputo branch of AICS, the Italian agency for development cooperation.

If in the past, Italian funding contributed to the construction of infrastructures such as bridges and dams. Today AICS works on projects for the drainage of rainwater and for the creation of centers for the community and schools in which thousands of young Mozambicans study.

Since 2016, environmental protection and technological innovation have also entered the agenda of Italian cooperation in the African country, however rural development remains the driving force for economic growth.

When the pandemic hit the country, AICS started a new project in Maputo aiming at improving the health awareness of the population that included the creation of masks.
Residents in metropolitan Melbourne are subject to stay-at-home orders and can only leave home for food and essential supplies, work, study, exercise or care responsibilities. People are also advised to wear masks in public.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits.

If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, stay home and arrange a test by calling your doctor or contact the Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.
