Applying for Italian citizenship? If you have no Italian ancestors you will have to do a new language test.

On January 16, the website of the Italian Consulate in Sydney published the announcement of new Amendments to the Citizenship Act N. 91/1992.

The new elements of the citizenship law are:

  • application fee has increased from Euro 200 to Euro 250;
  • knowledge of the Italian language has been introduced as a requirement, to prove at the moment of application;
  • the deadline for concluding the administrative procedure for granting citizenship by the Ministry of the Interior has been modified from 2 to 4 years.
Italian Consul of Sydney, Arturo Arcano explained during our program how the new laws apply and the way they will affect future applications for citizenship.
