Periods are still taboo in many parts of the world even though most women experience them for a long part of their adult lives. How can the stigma be broken?


An experience shared by women, which is part of their physiology, but that in many parts of the world is still stigmatized in many ways.

In the Italian language, like in many others, a reflection of the embarrassment surrounding periods is the great number of euphemisms used to talk about them.

Interestingly, a recent campaign by Plan International has successfully lobbied to introduce a new period emoji to help break down the stigma around menstruation.
