Born in Friuli in Gleris on the Tagliamento, at the age of 3 Renato Ius arrived in Cairns from Venice in 1955 on board the transatlantic "Flaminia" with his parents, Lina and Giuseppe.
The family then continued their journey to Mareeba, Queensland, where they settled. Renato later moved to Brisbane and then Sydney.
