The hearing to validate the arrest of the commander of the Sea Watch3, Carola Rackete, lasted about three hours. She is accused of deliberately ramming a Guardia di Finanza boat in the port of Lampedusa. The 31-year-old German remains under house arrest in a private home in Agrigento.

According to the chief prosecutor of Agrigento, Luigi Patronaggio, entry into port was not an action dictated by necessity, because the Sea Watch3 had received, in the previous days, medical assistance and was in continuous contact with Italian military authorities.

The editor of the newspaper Il Dubbio, Carlo Fusi, reports from Italy.
