Australian Stephanie Lee in 1968 boarded the Castel Felice ship for a European holiday unaware that that trip would change her life.

Stephanie's long voyage, because of the closure of the Suez Canal, took her around the world, from Australia to the Panama Canal over the Atlantic and then Italy. It took over a month. While on board she took Italian lessons that the crew were offering to passengers and she fell in love with the Italian language and culture. This is her story.

In the 1960s over 100.000 migrants came to Australia on the Castel Felice and tens of thousand boarded it on the return journey for a European vacation.
