Peter Wright, artistic director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, is in Australia for a new production of The Nutcracker .
The ballet was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with musics by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".
The first performance of the ballet was held on 18 December1892, at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia and although it was not a success at first it is today one of the most loved and renowned piece of classic ballet. The performance was conducted by Italian composer Riccardo Drigo, with Antonietta Dell'Era as the Sugar Plum Fairy, and as in the first ever performance- also the latest production of The Nutcracker has an Italian touch.
One of the 77 dancers on the stage is Riccardo Rodighiero, who was born in Turin, Italy.
This young and talented dancer studied at Liceo Coreutico Germana Erba and the English National Ballet School. He danced with English National Ballet and the New English Ballet Theatre before joining The Australian Ballet in 2017.
