In the latest parliamentary elections, half of the Italian electoratevoted for parties that have been labelled populist and sovranist.

Francesco Sberlati, Associate Professor of the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies of Bologna University, in this lecture will attempt to provide an institutional explanation as to why Italy, more so than other Western European democracies, has experienced such diverse forms of populism and consequently diverse strategies of political communication.

The conference will be held at: SLC Common Room 536, Level 5, Brennan MacCallum Building (A18), Sydney University.
