According to a VicHealth report, loneliness affects 80% of Australians under 18 and 40% over 65 and it is increasingly common.

Social isolation can strike also those people who have lots of friends or a big social network. But many of these people find companionship and help through the Red Cross Telecross program, the volunteer service that provides daily telephone calls to check on people’s wellbeing. Claudia Sailis is one of the Red Cross volunteers. She tells SBS Italian about her work and how Telecross can help elderly people who live in social isolation.
