Verdi's Rigoletto launches the opera season in Melbourne

Verdi's masterpiece Rigoletto opens the 2019 winter season in Melbourne with a stellar cast.


The title role will be performed by Mongolian star Amartuvshin Enkhbat, whose future engagements include Tosca in Piacenza, Rigoletto in Macerata, Florence and Liege, Pagliacci in Palermo, Nabucco in Parma, Berlin, Palermo and Liege. Renowned soprano Stacey Allaume will be Gilda, while Armenian tenor Armenian tenor Liparit Avetisyan will be the unscrupulous Duke of Mantua.

But the superstar of the show will be world renowned bass Roberto Scandiuzzi (Sparafucile) who returns to Australia after his triumph as Ramfis in the 2018 Aida's production at Sydney's Opera House. Scandiuzzi is one of the greatest bass since WWII with a career spanning over 40 years with performances in the best world's opera houses.

Italian conductor Andrea Licata will be in charge of the orchestra. Maestro Licata and Roberto Scandiuzzi reveal all the secrets of the current Opera Australia's production of Rigoletto. 

Rigoletto will be performed at the Arts Centre until 29 May.
