The AFL competition is Australia's latest major code to be suspended, as the fallout from the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic continues. CEO Gillon McLachlan fronted media on Sunday afternoon, announcing that the AFL will shut down for at least two months. The decision follows the latest series of drastic government measures to counter the coronavirus outbreak. Meanwhile, the 2020 AFLW season has been unceremoniously shuttered without the cup being lifted.
Meanwhile, calls for the Tokyo Olympics to be delayed are getting louder by the day. Sports governing bodies from the US and the UK are joining the call for the Tokyo Olympic Games to be cancelled or postponed. Athletes are also saying it shouldn’t go ahead.
