Adopted with a UN resolution back in 1999, today we celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The president of NIAWA (National Italian-Australian Women's Association) Concetta Perna says that violence against women is a major failure by men and society. Quoting former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, she says that violence against women is "the most shameful human rights violation".
