AstraZeneca claims its COVID-19 vaccine has the "winning formula", reporting it could be more effective than initially thought. However, the Federal Government says it won't rush to approve the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, with experts warning it's too early to be certain how it will perform when widely released.

Australia's coronavirus inoculation program is based on a trio of different vaccines; the Oxford-AstraZeneca  vaccine, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and the Novavax vaccine.

Australia has secured an initial 3.8 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for early 2021, and another 50 million will be manufactured throughout the year domestically.

The Federal Government has also secured ten million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and expects it will be approved first.
