Brisbane has been given 'preferred host status' by the International Olympic Committee for the 2032 Summer Games. It could see the Games return down under for the first time since Sydney in 2000.

A decision overnight by the International Olympic Committee has made Brisbane the preferred bidder for the 2032 Summer Games ... to be held in the Australian winter.

The news puts Australia ahead of other bids … including Qatar, Turkey, Germany, China and India.

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games is estimated to have brought a 2.6 billion dollar benefit to Queensland after costs, a rare financial win for this scale of sporting event, and a deciding factor for the IOC.

Queensland’s bid is expected to be confirmed at a vote in August by the I-O-C, during the Tokyo Games.
