Following the end of a number of key government stimulus packages last month many Australians now have less money to make ends meet. A number of not-for-profit organisations are urging consumers to tackle their debt problems before they spiral out of control via a free and confidential advice line.

Australia's household debt ratios have sky-rocketed in the past three decades.

As a ratio of household  income, Australian households now owe more than 200 percent in credit cards mortgages, expenses and bills.

On average that's more than double what they earn.

With assistance such as JobKeeper drying up, there are concerns that more and more people are experiencing hardship on their own.

The National Debt Helpline is a not for profit group offering free qualified financial counselling services to more than 100,000 people every year and has translation services for more than 170 different languages.
