Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the alleged rape of a former Liberal Party staffer is a wake-up call that must drive change within Parliament House. He has announced a formal review into the workplace culture at federal Parliament, including the way ministers and staff are held to account over claims of harassment.

Brittany Higgins alleges she was sexually assaulted by a male colleague in Defence Minister Linda Reynolds’ office at Parliament House in March 2019.

At the time, at the age of 24, she was just four weeks into her job working as a staffer for Minister Reynolds.

Speaking out on Monday Feb 15, after publicly resigning this year, she told the Ten Network that she felt she had to choose to protect her career by not pursuing an unofficial complaint she filed with police.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he offers a full apology for that, saying he has called for a workplace review, after finding out about the incident in the last 24 hours -- and upon hearing her full account.

The federal ministerial staffer who is alleged to have perpetrated the rape against Brittany Higgins has been sacked.

Ms Higgins says she now plans to formally pursue a police complaint.
