Let's listen to the interview with a Sydney-based Japanese actor Kuni Hashimoto. Mr Hashimoto played a role of Murakami in the Australian play 'Yasukichi Murakami: Through a Distant Lens'. The interview was recorded and broadcast in 2016.

'Yasukichi Murakami: Through a Distant Lens' was written by a Japanese-Australian artist Mayu Kanamori and performed in Australia in 2015 and 2016.

Yasukichi Murakami is a Japanese pioneer in Australia.  He immigrated to Australia in 1897 and became a photographer, entrepreneur and inventor.  Murakami died in an internment camp during the WWII.

The English transcript was translated into Japanese and the reading performance of “Yasukichi Murakami – Through A Distant Lens” will be held this weekend - on the 24th and the 25th June - in Japan.  It's available online and free of charge.

Mr Hashimoto played Murakami in Australia.  He will attend a symposium which will be held after the reading on the 25th, with other cast and staff, including Mayu Kanamori.

The reading will be played by new Japanese cast.
