Tharu community celebrates "Maghi" in Sydney for the first time

Nepali Tharu community celebrated their biggest festival - "Maghi" - for the first time in Australia in Tempe Recreation Reserve on Tuesday. The festival tried to reflect some essentials of traditional way of celebrating Maghi.

The program was the first initiation by the Tharu community in Australia. Although a small number of people were present, everyone at the festival enjoyed the evening. A typical Maghi platter with homemade liquor known as  "Chyang" was the main attraction together with some traditional dance performances in Tharu songs.
