A star and its planet to have Nepali name

Nepali names will be given to a star and its planet as a part of a global campaign organised by International Astronomical Union (IAU).

The campaign ‘Name ExoWorlds’ is a global project and Nepal, as being a part of it, is developing its national committee to collect suggestions of names.

Nepali Astronomical Society (NASO) confirms the host star assigned to have Nepali name is HD100777. And the planet orbiting this star is HD100777b.

President of NASO Mr Suresh Bhattarai spoke to SBS Nepali about the project and process of choosing the names.
