Kanak Mani Dixit is a Nepali writer, journalist, publisher, and civil rights activist who is also involved in heritage preservation works in Nepal. Recently, he suggested that the Kathmandu Valley could be renamed ‘Svanigha’, a term he claims is already in use by the local Newa community. Nepal correspondent Girish Subedi spoke with Dixit, who is also the founding editor of Himal Southasian, about the concept of ‘Svanigha’ and the challenges and future of journalism in Nepal.
