Momo goes international for Melbourne’s Dumpling festival

More Australiansknow what Momos are than ever before, thanks to the increasing number of Nepali restaurants in Australia.


The humble Nepali style dumpling will be joining some the best varieties from across the globe at an international dumpling festival to be held in Melbourne on the eve of the city’s biggest racing calendar.

The festival to be held on Monday, 4th of November will have 24 stalls at the city’s Queen Victoria’s Markets, serving more than 50 varieties of dumplings.

“There will be Momo, Japanese Gyoza, Russian Pilmeni, Turkish Manti, Korean Mandoo, Indian Samosa.”, says Raju Shakya from Solangture, organisers of the festival.

“There will be dumplings with spicy soup, fried dumplings, steamed dumplings, whatever suits your tastebuds”, he says.

This is not the first time the organisers have put on a dumpling festival in Melbourne.

The Nepali origin Solangture have hosted dumpling festival catering to lovers of Momo.

Thousands of people attended the event and Solangture wanted to replicate that success for upcoming festival on the eve of Melbourne Cup.
