Nepali photojournalist Narendra Shrestha is one of the winners of the 2026 World Press Photo Contest. His image, captured during the Gen Z protests in Nepal last September, which shows the Singha Durbar engulfed in flames, was selected as a joint winner in the ‘Singles’ category for the West, Central and South Asia region, alongside two other photographs. Nepal correspondent Pratichya Dulal spoke with Shrestha about what he witnessed and experienced while taking the photo, as well as his career and the state of photojournalism in Nepal.
