The Federal Government is set to appoint a deputy chief medical officer for Mental Health, amid concerns about the psychological impacts of COVID-19.


Advocates have welcomed the move, with government modelling warning deaths from suicide could outstrip those from the virus.

Former Victorian health official Ruth Vine will take on the newly created role of Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Mental Health.
