The federal government wants asylum seekers - trying to arrive by boat - to be banned for life from entering the country. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says banning asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island from ever entering Australia sends the clearest message possible. But human rights advocates say the move could breach international law.
