O primeiro-ministro Scott Morrison fechou esta semana de fogos e protestos de rua na Austrália com uma entrevista na TV defendendo as ações do seu governo frente à crise dos incêndios.

O primeiro-ministro Scott Morrison fechou esta semana de fogos e protestos de rua na Austrália com uma entrevista na TV defendendo as ações do seu governo frente à crise dos incêndios.


Falando na TV ABC neste domingo de manhã, o primeiro-ministro Scott Morrison reconheceu que há uma demanda maior entre a população exigindo um envolvimento maior e mais rápido do governo federal em momentos de crise.

Para o primeiro-ministro australiano, as funções futuras do governo federal precisam ser revisadas:

"That was not something that was recommended going into this fire season that there'd be any change to the federal government's direct role in responding to a national disaster, but I will happily concede that having gone through these recent weeks that I think there is a very new appetite, a very new expectation for that to occur. Now I think that raises some other issues, and that is well on what basis, under what rules, how does it happen."

Scott Morrison disse que quer a abertura de uma Comissão Real de inquérito/Royal Commission para investigar a crise dos incêndios na Austrália.

O primeiro-ministro também admitiu que era importante que ele exercitasse uma maior cautela ao entrar em cidades muito afetadas pelos incêndios:

"They were very strained environments and I think we need to think a little harder about how we do those. I mean I think I've had very effective visits where been away from the cameras as well. I think that makes people a lot more able to engage with you and look you know there have been some things we'd do differently and you learn from every event."
