A woman has been charged after a taxi driver was allegedly stabbed in the Sydney suburb of Ashfield.
Police say the 50-year-old driver was stabbed on a side of his head after attempting to rob him.
According to police, Rajiv Sethi, an Indian migrant, then drove himself to the police station after he was injured by a 24-year-old female passenger. The woman was later arrested following inquiries by the police.
Mr Sethi picked up the female passenger on Sunday night in Ashfield. He said the woman then placed a knife at his throat and slashed him at the side of his head. During the struggle to break free, he was also cut on his hand.
Bleeding from his wounds, he then drove a police station to seek help where paramedics treated him before taking him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
Mr Sethi says the incident was the most frightening experience of his career as a taxi driver spanning over two decades.
“It is better to stay at home and stay safe than to be on the road risking your life for nothing,” Mr Sethi told the Ten Network.
“Your life is on the line.”
The alleged stabber was arrested from a house close to where Mr Sethi had picked her up. She was taken to Burwood Police Station where she was charged with assault with intent to rob whilst armed with an offensive weapon.
She is due back in court on Wednesday.
