An activist of Aam Aadmi Party was allegedly shot dead by a Shiromani Akali Dal leader in Moga district of Punjab on Sunday, Hindustan Times reported.

AAP member Jagroop Singh was killed during a land dispute on Sunday evening.

According to media reports, the accused Akali Dal leader, Jagseer Singh accompanied by nearly 15 other men tried to take possession of Jagroop’s farmland. The accused opened fire at Jagroop, his brother and a nephew as they tried to stop them.

Jagroop died in a hospital in Ludhiana.

Senior AAP leader HS Phoolka who went to lodge a police report of the incident said the police did not help them.

Workers of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress staged a sit-in protest and blocked a highway to press the police to take action against the Akali leader and his accomplices in the case.

The Tribune on Tuesday reported that the police had booked Akali Dal leader Jagseer Singh and his 14 accomplices for Jagroop’s murder. However, no arrests had been made yet.

The police said the accused Akali leader and his two accomplices were injured in a clash and were receiving treatment at a hospital. The police said they will be arrested as soon as they are discharged from the hospital.
