A young woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men and her nine-month-old daughter thrown out of a moving vehicle in India’s National Capital Region.

The 23-year-old woman was on her way to her parent’s house when, according to her, three men sexually assaulted her on the evening of 29th May in Gurgaon, adjacent to New Delhi.

One of the accused men allegedly snatched the woman’s daughter and threw her out of the moving three-wheeler auto rickshaw.

Police say, the three men then raped the 23-year-old woman.

Hours later, the woman returned to the spot looking for her baby and found her on the side of a road. She took her to a hospital in Gurgaon. When told her daughter was dead, she couldn’t believe it and took a train to travel to another hospital in Delhi.

When the doctors at the second hospital confirmed that her child was dead, she returned to Gurgaon, reportedly holding her dead daughter in her arms, her husband and members of the Gurgaon police located her.

"Her [the victim’s] husband and the Gurgaon police received the victim from the MG Road Metro station after she returned from the hospital in Delhi. The police conducted a post-mortem of the infant," Sandeep Khirwar, head of Gurgaon police said.

The woman had left her husband’s home after a fight with him on the morning of the incident.

She told the police that she was going to her parent’s house by an auto-rickshaw when three men travelling with her sexually assaulted her. When her baby started crying, one of the men threw her on the road.

She told the police the men raped her for hours before they dumped her on a road.

The police have released sketches of the three accused and are appealing for public assistance in finding them.

The police came in for a lot of criticism for not registering a complaint and only doing so five days after the incident when the matter found a mention in the press.
