Other occupants of the car were unhurt.
The man driving the car said he failed to stop before the police barricade because he failed to notice it. He said he tried to stop the vehicle as soon as he saw the signal by the cops.
The angry locals who witnessed the incident, chased away policemen armed with AK 47 after the firing incident at around 11 am.
The deceased woman was identified as Neha Sharma. She was reportedly on her way to attend a marriage function when their car was fired upon.
Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal demanded Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal's resignation who is also the home minister of the state, overkilling of the woman.
Sukhbir Badal did not respond to the incident in Samana. He said the jailbreak incident was perpetrated to revive terrorism in the state.
