Cricket team leaves Australia without the missing Indian player

Mystery continues to shroud the disappearance of 19-year-old cricketer, Palwinder Singh Dhillon who went missing after seeing the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Melbourne CBD.

He was part of the Cricket Council of India team that visited Australia to participate in the Willowfest tournament from December 26-30 in Mildura.

While the remaining 19 members of the team returned to India on Wednesday afternoon, there’s still no sign of the missing cricketer.

Baljinder Sandhu, the ambassador or the tournament who instrumental in inviting the visiting Indian team to participate in the tournament said they had received no information about Palwinder.

“We have checked hospitals, we went to the police, we searched for him in the city and along the train line, but we couldn’t find him,” said Sandhu.

He said Palwinder it was possible that Palwinder might have gone somewhere on his own volition.

“If he had been a victim of a mishap, the police would have known. Now it increasingly looks possible that he has gone on his own,” Sandhu told SBS Punjabi.

Palwinder’s passport and other documents have been submitted to the Indian Consulate in Melbourne.

His stay in Australia is legal until March 14 when his three months visa expires. 

After his disappearance, Palwinder's parents told the team manager that they had no relatives or friends in Australia. 

Palwinder did not have any of his belongings, including his passport, luggage and cash when he went missing. 

He was wearing a blue turban and a jersey with Willowfest logo and Cricket Council of India print.
