India makes seven-day home quarantine mandatory for all international arrivals from 11 January

The Indian government revised its guidelines for international travellers, requiring a seven-day quarantine at home from 11 January. The new guidelines require travellers from 'countries at risk' to submit samples for self-paid COVID-19 testing upon arrival.

In response to the spread of Omicron, India has revised its guidelines for international travellers. As per the Government of India's latest travel advice, you must undertake a COVID-19 (RT-PCR) test within 72 hours of travel if you are travelling to India. You'll need to upload your negative test results to the Air Suvidha website.

India has issued a list of "at-risk' countries. Travellers from these countries are required to undertake additional COVID-19 screening measures at the first point of arrival. They will have to wait for the results of their tests at the airport before they can leave or take a connecting flight.

The travellers will be subjected to home quarantine for seven days after arrival and undergo RTPCR testing on their eighth day in India. States may also introduce additional screening measures at short notice.

In addition, travellers will also have to upload the results of their repeat RT-PCR tests done on the 8th day on the Air Suvidha portal.

However, suppose the travellers are found positive. In that case, their samples should be sent to the INSACOG laboratory network for further genomic testing. They will be isolated at a facility and managed according to standard protocols, including contact tracing.

States may also introduce additional screening measures at short notice. Besides this, some domestic travel restrictions have also been put in place. Criminal penalties may be imposed for breaching the restrictions.

It is advised to check with your airline or tour operator and the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare or the nearest Indian high commission.
