Gurbir Singh returned to his native village Hundal, Amritsar from Australia a few days ago. According to a local newspaper, his marriage ceremony was due in January 2017.

Gurbir’s uncle has reported to police that murderers are roadside vendors near Basrke bus stand.

“When Gurbir stopped his motorcycle near their shop, they became agitated, and killed Gurbir with sharp weapons.”

Gurbir was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

Based on initial findings Punjab Police has registered a case against 6 people.

DSP Jaimal Singh Nagoke is investigating the matter and police is yet to make arrests.

“Gurbir was my school time class mate. He was very talented, always good in sports, and he loved singing. He went to Australia a few years ago with so many dream, but it was unfortunate that when his father was sick he could not come back for some personal reasons," said one of Gurbir’s school time friends who doesn't want to be named.

“I share my grief with the family. Killing someone just for this reason is absolutely shocking,” he said in a statement to SBS Radio's Punjabi Program.
