A 37-year-old P-Plater was charged with drink-driving at almost four times the legal limit in Sydney.
Neeraj Shukla was arrested from a car park near Marayong Public School in Blacktown, west of Sydney, around 3.15 pm on Wednesday.
He was there to collect his two children aged six and nine.
The police was called to the spot when Mr Shukla reportedly rammed into another vehicle while reversing his car.
The two children were in the backseat of the vehicle when the crash happened. The occupants of the other car contacted police.
When subjected to a breath test by the police, Mr Shukla allegedly blew 0.198, four times the legal limit. P-plate drivers are not allowed to have any alcohol in their system.
“Someone in this situation, at 0.198, well and truly over that limit, putting himself and everyone else at great risk,” Chief Inspector Phil Brooks from the NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command told 9News.
Mr Shukla was charged with high range drink driving and is due to appear at Blacktown Local Court on June 18.
He later apologised and admitted that he should not have been driving in his state.
“I made a mistake. It was a bad day,” Mr Shukla told 9News.
