Powered by his magnificent knocks in the opening Test match against England, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has become the top-ranked Test batsman in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings.
With his impressive campaign of 149 runs in the first innings and 51 in the second at Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham, the 28-year-old batsman has collected a career-high of 934 points, five more than the former Australian skipper Steve Smith who had held the top spot since December 2015.
He is the seventh Indian batsman and first since Sachin Tendulkar to have soared to the top since June 2011.
Besides these two, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Dilip Vengsarkar are the only Indian batsmen to have achieved the numero uno rankings in their careers.
Meanwhile, his fans took to Twitter to congratulate him for climbing to the top of the ladder.
But overall, Kohli is still number 14 in the all-time points tally and will have to deliver another sterling stride to join the league of the top-10 batsmen in the world.
