On his visit to Glenwood, Mr Morrison attended an open meeting with some of the community representatives to better understand the local issues including the issues pertaining to Sikh identity.
Mr Morrison was also taken to the big Gurdwara Kitchen to show how the food (Langar*) is prepared every day at no cost for one and all, which is common to the Sikh ethics of sharing and oneness of all humankind.
While talking to media, Mr Morrison made comments about Labor Party’s $750,000 grant to the Australian Sikh Association, which was never delivered. He also mentioned that Liberal party is working on the ‘five years continuous visa’ policy for the parents of migrants.
“Michelle Rowland made promises in last election that she couldn’t keep. This community was disadvantaged by her promise. Let me give an example, there was an aged care commitment to the Lebanese community by Labor MP Tony Burke. The Coalition honoured this commitment as it was done in a caretaker time period. Opposite to this, the Greenway candidate MP Michelle Rowland did this promise in election times, she made promises at different places, held up cheques, lead people to believe that these things will be honoured, and that’s not how you deal straight with people” Treasurer Scott Morrison
