Indian businessman shot at in US
32-year-old Mr Uppal who hailed from Nadala village near Kapurthala in the northern Indian state of Punjab suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
He was rushed to the Fort Hamilton Hospital and was later airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital where he succumbed to his injury ten days later.
He had moved to the US along with his wife and four young kids nearly eight years ago and worked as a truck driver and also operated a trolley business in the city of Cincinnati.
Roberts, who has been held in prison on $1 million bail since the incident originally faced a life sentence.
But just days before his trial, he pleaded guilty to the much-lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of unlawful weapons, leading him to get a shorter sentence.
It could not be established that it was a hate crime.
