A 25-year-old man was struck by a train in India while recording a selfie video along the train track. T Siva, a gym trainer from the southern-Indian state of Telangana, received a head injury as a result of the mishap.

The Hindu reports that the railway police has registered a case against Mr Siva.

The video recorded on his phone shows despite the train blasting its horn, Mr Siva doesn’t move an inch and continues to record the video.

As he continues to film, the train strikes the right side of his head, before the phone drops to the ground.

The 21-second video has been viewed thousands of times on Facebook since Monday.

The South Central Railway, in a press statement, said Mr Siva had been warned by a home guard not to go close to the tracks.

"The person was also booked under the Railways Act by the Railway Protection Force. Any act of taking selfies and photographs by trespassing on the railway tracks and premises and on trains will entail punishment under section 147 of the Railways Act, 1989."
“He was booked and penalised Rs. 500 ($10). Despite the severity of the impact in the video, he escaped largely unhurt as the locopiolot applied the emergency brakes and slowed the train,” The Hindu quoted Railway Protection Inspector Sudhakar Rao as saying.

Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Railways and Coal in the Government of India, also tweeted to warn people against risking their lives for social media images.
"Disheartened by the accidents happened due to selfies and stunts in the last few days. Urge all of you to not to risk your lives, instead, channelise our energy in more productive areas and help in building a New India," said Mr Goyal.

The BBC reports that the majority of selfie deaths across the world have taken place in India. Of the 127 global selfie deaths researchers identified between March 2014 and September 2016, 76 occurred in India and most of the victims were reported to be young people, according to a study by a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg.
