Melbourne-based son of a woman shot dead in US says it was an 'inside job'

Gurinder Singh Hans’ mother, uncle, aunt and cousin were murdered in their home in Cincinnati in the US nearly two months ago. Mr Hans who is an Australian citizen suspects that killings were an 'inside' job carried out by someone who had a definite motive.

The shattered son whose mother was murdered along with three members of their family in the US earlier in April says his days are filled with their inescapable memories.

Melbourne-based Gurinder Singh Hans’ mother, Amarjit Kaur was shot dead in a West Chester apartment complex in Cincinnati on April 28, along with his uncle, Hakikat Singh Panag, aunt, Paramjit Kaur and their daughter, Shalinder Kaur.

Speaking with SBS Punjabi, Mr Hans claimed he is sure that the killings were an inside job.

“I can say for sure that the killer had a personal agenda. It wasn’t hate crime,” said Mr Hans who has just returned from Cincinnati where an investigation is currently underway.

“I have full faith in the US justice system. I’m sure they will soon find the killer,” he added.

Mr Hans also appealed to members of the community and his extended family to help the police with the ongoing investigation.

“I’d like to appeal to my family members and friends to come forward and speak with the police in case they’re aware of any piece of information that can lead the police to the killer,” Mr Hans said.

Mr Hans is not the only one pushing for answers. His family in the north Indian state of Punjab led by his brother Jasdeep Singh Hans organised a candlelight vigil in Fatehgarh Sahib district on Sunday, urging the Indian government to help the family.

Mr Hans recalled how his mother was excited about visiting her sister in the US.

“She had bought so many gifts for every member of the family. Now that I look back, I feel she was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” said a heartbroken Mr Hans who claims it would take them a lifetime to overcome this loss.

He is now leading what he calls a ‘fight for justice’ for his mother and the three family members.

“I want justice for all of them. I wouldn’t stop until I know who did it and why,” said Mr Hans.
