Pammi Aunty, the Punjabi 'Dame Edna', still sees Australia in her dreams

Pammi Aunty is a global sensation thanks to her videos that depict 'that' audacious and loud older woman who is always gossiping, criticising, complaining about the world and who makes it her business to voice her opinions about everything.

To sample her unique brand of caustic humour, hear Pammi Aunty's latest interview with SBS Punjabi, in which "she" not only comes across as the loud opinionated person we are familiar with, but also as a smart, well-informed, insightful person who is fully conversant with current events - both local and global.

In this interview, hear what Pammi Aunty thinks about migrating to Australia, or what she would say to US President Donald Trump, if she met him. (audio link on the image above)

Also watch Pammi Aunty's latest video production for SBS Punjabi, in which she is speaking to"Kohli Bhenji", planning the wedding of India's circket captain, Virat Kohli.
Pammi Aunty is an avatar created by actor Ssumier S Pasricha, who spent many years in Perth, Australia, as a student.

"After finishing my studies I started working in Perth - but those were all corporate jobs which weren't satisfying my creativity. I came back to India, stayed in Delhi for a year and felt I needed to be in Mumbai to achieve my dreams," he told SBS Punjabi.

One day, quite by accident, his Instagram post with a "crazy" filter became a hit and Pammi Aunty was born.

The rest, as they say, is history.

SSumier is flattered by the comparisons to Australian icon 'Dame Edna', the character created by the legendary actor Barry Humphries, which he says is "a huge honour for me."

"And I do miss Australia. I respect Australia as the country that gave me a decent living, dignity and independence - it's just that there was no further scope for me to grow there.

"In fact, when I left Australia, I had made a promise to myself that I'll come back when I realise my dreams," says Ssumier.

"Now, I can't wait to come back to Australia and to perform as Pammi Aunty in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth."

Ssumier is also looking forward to starting a talkshow as Pammi Aunty. More importantly for SBS Punjabi listeners, Ssumier is producing videos exclusively for SBS Punjabi's Facebook page: here is the first one  'Pammi Aunty's review of Bahubali 2' - in case you missed it.
Reflecting on his personal memories of living in Australia for many years, Ssumier says: "Frankly speaking when I visited Sydney and Melbourne back then, I did not like those cities. I was used to living in Perth, which is a much quieter city with a much smaller population. It was quite a shock for me when I landed in Melbourne for the first time, and didn't think I could ever fit in. But now, having lived in Mumbai, perhaps I can."

He also narrated a hilarious incident when he landed in Melbourne, going on to say: "Even now, when I'm about to sleep at night, I sometimes dream that I'm in Australia - its like visiting Australia in my dreams."

And here is the second video produced by Ssumier Pasricha for SBS Punjabi - watch what happens when MBA's mother returns from a trip to America and gets "gifts" for Pammi Aunty
