Dave Pillay, the man in the suspected murder-suicide case in Sydney reportedly held a knife to his four-year-old daughter’s neck just three weeks ago.

Tasnim’s cousin Sifat Sharmin Ruponty said it was at this point that Tasnim decided to move out with her daughter.

"He actually took a knife in my niece’s neck and that is when my sister decided that she cannot live with the man anymore," Ms Ruponty told Channel Seven News.

News Corp Australia reported that Pillay strangled Ms. Bahar before hanging himself while their daughter slept in the bedroom. Ms. Bahar had taken their daughter to Pillay for the Fathers’ Day.

Tasnim Bahar was a Bangladeshi-born scientific officer while Pillay was an Australia Post worker. Family members were reportedly worried about their relationship which was becoming “increasingly abusive”.
