Police are appealing for public assistance following a hit-and-run collision that left a 37-year-old pedestrian with critical injuries in a western suburb of Melbourne on Saturday night.
Jimmy Kalia was found by a passerby on Anderson Road a little after 11 pm in Albion after being struck by a car.
Mr Kalia was taken to hospital with critical injuries. He is receiving treatment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
His wife has released his image in the hope of finding someone who may have witnessed the incident and provide more information.
From the parts found at the scene of the collision, investigators believed Mr Kalia was hit by a Toyota Camry.
A witness has told the police that the driver of the vehicle stopped about 80 meters from the crash before getting back into his vehicle and drove off.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brad McArthur said the witness described the driver as a middle-aged Asian man.
"The car that struck the pedestrian has been observed [by a witness] to pull up about 50 to 80 metres north of where the strike occurred," he told Nine Network.
"The driver has got out, had a look back towards the victim, and then he's hopped back in his vehicle and driven off."
Police are looking for a silver or blue-coloured vehicle similar to the Camry.
The father of two was struck just meters away from his home.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
