Two armed robbers were forced to run for their lives after a Sikh shopkeeper and his son fought back and bashed them up in Napier.
M Singh and his son were in their family-run store when two masked robbers armed with a crowbar and a hammer stormed their business at 5:40 Friday morning.
"It was very quick," said Detective Glenn Restieaux, of Hawke's Bay CIB. He estimated at least one of the robbers would have been injured.
It was the first such incident during the last ten years since the Singhs have owned this business.
“Police had told us a few days ago that a gang could target our business, so we were prepared,” a family member told SBS Punjabi who identified herself as Mrs. Kaur.
