The community is mourning the death of two Indian youths died in a tragic accident in the northern Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island.

Two Indian youths have died in a tragic car crash in New Zealand.

Kamalpreet Singh, 22, and Lovepreet Singh Waraich, 19, died when their car collided with a truck on State Highway 7 near the town of Culverden on Tuesday morning.

According to a report published in Stuff.co.nz both boys died on the scene after their white car crashed into a north-bound truck.

Kamal Preet Singh, of Khasi Kalaan, District Ludhiana was currently on job search visa.

Lovepreet Waraich, of village Kumhar Majra in Shahbad Tehsil, Kurukshetra, Haryana came on student visa six months ago.

A friend has confirmed that their bodies would be returned to India for the funerals.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the High Commission of India said it was providing "all necessary assistance" for transporting the bodies.

"Cost not met by ACC will be borne by the High Commission. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families."
The family and friends are expressing their grief on social media as the impact of pair's death has touched many. 

The Sikh community in Christchurch is appealing community members to come forward to support the grieving families. 

Gurudwara Singh Sabha has set up bank account to provide financial support to the heartbroken families from India.
