Members of the Indian community in Columbus, Ohio in the Untied states have been alarmed by a video of them appearing on an alleged anti-immigration website.
The video hosted by YouTube has been posted on SaveAmericanITJobs.com which according to Buzzfeed News is run by a 66-year-old Steve Pushor, a computer programmer from Virginia.
The video titled ‘Ohio Suburban Park is Occupied by Indians with Various Green $$$ (H1-B L-1 H-4 ) Visas’ has a running commentary showing men, women and children playing and relaxing in a public park.
The description of the video reads Ohio’s suburban park is occupied by rich Indians.
“These Indians have to be clocking in at $$$150 - 200K plus in salary to live in this area. The clothes they are wearing, the cars in the parking lot, the expensive baby strollers, ALL pointed to BIG $$,” the description reads adding the Americans found it difficult to get IT Jobs.
“The number of people from foreign countries blows my mind out here. You see this whole area is all Indian, amazing. It’s an amazing number of jobs have been taken away from Americans. The Indian crowd has ravished the Midwest. It’s a takeover,” the man filming can be heard commentating on the video.
Steve Pushore who runs the website told Buzzfeed News that the immigrant visa-holders are a threat to the IT jobs.
“What we’re trying to point out is people in Ohio, IT workers and other professional people, have lost their jobs to foreign guest workers. That’s what our point is."
The video has many Indian families worried.
“It’s very scary for me knowing that I have a lot of family in these small Indian communities. To think that there could be some weirdo filming my cousin’s kids as they’re playing at the park, and possibly fomenting resentment towards them, is just disturbing,” said Bhavin Bavalia.
The 2 minute 50-second long video has had 170 thousand views since it was posted on YouTube.
Many people have reacted to the video, some calling it an attempt at starting a racial discord, others have expressed their agreement with the video.
“As a citizen of this great nation I find this video against the fundamental American values of diversity and equality of all races,” commented a user with a profile name Stem Mentor.
“As an American, I apologize for this man's behavior!,” commented Dark Knight.
Another user with the username Andrew Woolman said he agreed the H1B Program was highly misused, but he questioned the video’s motive.
“How does creating videos promoting racial hatred towards people of Indian origin (like the video above) achieve your goals?"
Another post on the website, titled 'Indian IT Mafia: Indian corruption destroys the IT industry' blamed top Indian technology companies for unemployment among American IT professionals.
