A shocking video shows a four wheel drive swerving off the road and then, what appeared to be a deliberate act, driving on the wrong side of the highway before crashing head-on into a car, leaving a woman dead and another critically injured.

The 45-year-old driver of the Toyota Landcruiser went through the windscreen due to the impact of the head-on collision as the vehicle burst into flames south of Perth on Saturday. He is in hospital in a critical condition.

Warning: Some people may find the video distressing

The 62-year-old woman driver of the vehicle it crashed into died at the scene and her 54-year-old woman passenger was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The video filmed by a motorist was obtained by 9 NEWS. Dan Mateljan was behind the erratically driven Landcruiser with his two friends.

"This dude is trying to kill someone for sure," Mr Mateljan can be heard saying. He reported the incident to WA Police.

"Completely erratic, there was no explanation for it. He was physically driving his vehicle off-road to take out signs and then veering into the oncoming traffic to then deliberately have a head-on collision," he later told 9NEWS.

Major Crash investigators are investigating the crash.
