For Manveer Singh, the 38th Australian Sikh Games were his first-ever participation in a game he loves, soccer.
Speaking to SBS Punjabi, he said, "It does not matter to me if I win or lose. I am so glad that I get to participate like everyone else and have a chance to make new friends."
Mandeep Kaur, an allied-health professional, is one of the organisers of the inclusive category.
"I have seen as part of my daily work that parents, especially those from our community, tend to hide their kids with disabilities and limit them to their homes. They fear they would not get the social and emotional support they need," Kaur told SBS Punjabi.
She said that her initiative will not be limited to the Sikh Games and she intends to reach out to temples, gurudwaras, and places of significance to spread the word and offer support to those in need.
Many parents at the event also lauded the initiative.
